USING WIND POWER TO HEDGE VOLATILE ELECTRICITY PRICES FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL CUSTOMERS IN NEW YORK

This study concludes that wind-generated electricity can provide important hedging benefits to New York's wholesale electricity markets, but that providing this benefit to individual C&I customers is more challenging. Because the barriers to using wind as a retail wind hedge can be significant, retail wind hedge tools may be most attractive to a limited segment of the C&I market. Nonetheless, this analysis suggests that wind can provide a good, if not perfect, hedge for many C&I customers.
