Horizon Wind Energy LLC (“Horizon”) and its subsidiaries develop, construct, own and operate wind farms throughout North America. Based in Houston, Texas with 27 wind farms and over 15 offices across the United States, Horizon has developed more than 3,600 megawatts (MW) and operates over 3,400 MW of wind farms. Horizon, ranked third in the United States in terms of net installed capacity, has more than 1,900 turbines in operation and approximately 40 million hours of wind turbine operational history. the parent company of EDPR, is a vertically-integrated utility headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal. CORPORATE HISTORY
Throughout its history, Horizon has gone through several stages and business models. The Company began in 1998 as a “build-transfer” developer known as Zilkha Renewable Energy, followed by a period of ownership by Goldman Sachs as a “developer-owner-operator” beginning in 2005. EDP acquired Horizon on July 2, 2007. In December 2007, Horizon’s ownership was transferred from EDP to EDPR. In June 2008, EDP listed 22.5% shares of EDP Renováveis in an initial public offering on the Euronext Lisbon Stock Exchange, upon which it immediately became a member of the benchmark Portuguese Stock Index-20 (PSI-20) as its fifth-largest company by market capitalization.
